Trade & Apprenticeship Programs
Overview
Through our free Trades Program, individuals 17 to 50, will be given the opportunity to learn a trade and gain a career. Upon completion of the skills training course, they will enter our PAID Apprenticeship Program which will last until job placement.
While in our program, students will be given assistance with transportation needs, have access to a fully stocked and functional kitchen, be offered free child care while attending class and be emotionally supported throughout the program.
Participants will also have the opportunity to take classes in basic financing, healthy eating and meal preparation and self awareness. Support group opportunities will be offered to all students.
Program Requirements
Individuals 17-50 yrs needing financial stability
Committed to the duration of the program
Attend all instructional classes
Committed to working on skills outside instructional time
Clean and sober
Respectful to peers and instructors; any verbal or physical abuse will result in dismissal from the program
Ability to reach, bend, stoop, stand for long periods of time and lift up to 25 lbs. (upholstery class only)
Programs
Upholstery/Sewing Trade Program
A self paced program where students will complete a series of extensive skills and training classes and then enter our TCH Studios paid apprenticeship program. Through the apprenticeship program, students will earn money while mastering their skills under the guidance of their instructor. Students will remain in the apprenticeship program until employment is obtained.
Apparel Construction Program
A self paced program in which students will complete a series of fundamental skills classes and then begin training in alterations, tailoring, garment construction, and small batch work. Students will remain in the apprenticeship program until employment is obtained.
TCH Studios
Both sewing and upholstery students will be offered an apprenticeship at one of the TCH Studios locations. This apprenticeship will take place at both the Reisterstown and Wicomico locations and apprentices will be paid hourly. Under the mentorship of professionals in the trade, students will become a part of the TCH Studios Teams and rotate through the various aspects of The Studio.
